Maya Rupert joined Senator Elizabeth Warren’s campaign in January 2020 as a Senior Advisor and continues to serve as a Senior Advisor to Senator Warren. Prior to that, she was campaign manager for Julián Castro, and is the third black woman to ever manage a presidential campaign.

Before taking that role, Maya worked for the Center for Reproductive Rights where she was the Senior Director for Policy and Managing Director of the DC office. She was also an appointee with the Obama administration where she served as a Senior Advisor to Secretary Castro at HUD.

Maya frequently writes on the intersection of race, gender, politics, and culture. Her work has appeared in numerous outlets including The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Slate. She has been recognized by the National Association of Black Journalists for her writing and by national outlets like Ebony Magazine and The Root for being an influential leader in the black community.

Maya received her B.A. from U.C. Santa Barbara and her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law. She clerked for the Honorable Eric L. Clay of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
